Hey friends! Today I’m sharing all about our family getaway in Georgia. We had such a fun time escaping to the mountains at Christmastime!
Where we stayed:
First things first, let me tell you about where we stayed! I got so many DMs asking about this cabin, and I’m SO excited to share it with you because it was truly the dreamiest place I’ve ever stayed! Head over to Top of the Ridge Ellijay on Instagram — it’s perfect for a family getaway. She had it decorated for Christmas which was icing on the cake! This would be a great vacation spot any time of the year, though.

The porch was amazing — it had a fireplace outside! There was a big porch on the main floor and then upstairs Michael and I had a private balcony in our room. The view was incredible, too!

At the bottom of the mountain, there was a beautiful creek with a picnic area! We stopped by the day before we left so we could explore a little bit. The water was freeezingggg, lol!

What we did:
Our cabin was located in Ellijay, so that’s where we explored first! You’ll notice that I’m wearing the same outfit in some locations, because on some days we split the day in different towns, or we’d revisit a town in the evening!
In Ellijay, there are a bunch of cute shops and antique stores to browse, which is our favorite thing to do! We ate lunch at Cantaberry which was SO YUM. They have gluten free bread that is delicious — I got a BLT!

That afternoon, we went to Blue Ridge but I accidentally didn’t take any photos there! We shopped and walked around, got a coffee that tasted gross (haha) and then went back to our cabin!
On day two, we went to Dahlonega. This is my favorite town ever. It’s so Hallmarky (no, really, they’ve filmed multiple Hallmark movies there!) and especially at Christmas it was like being in a dream. They had horse-drawn carriage rides, too! We didn’t do one because the line was ridiculous – I’d suggest getting there early if you wanted to participate!
We ate lunch at North Georgia BBQ — I’ve talked about this place before in this blog post of my last visit to Georgia! My mom and I usually split the wings, they’re soooo good.

On our last day, we ventured to Helen, which was about an hour and a half from our cabin. My mom and I had been to Helen before, so we were really wanting to go again with the guys this time! Helen is so cool — it’s a German town and is decorated super festive. We ate at The Troll Tavern and we all ate Bratworst and Knockworst – which are basically German hotdogs – they were really good! It was fun to have a “taste” (no pun intended) of German culture.

On our last night, we went back to Dahlonega to experience it at nighttime. There are so many twinkling lights everywhere, and the horse-drawn carriage rides, it was really the perfect way to wrap up our trip. We sat down for some coffee at the Picnic Cafe and Dessertery — I got a mocha drink that was super yummy. The best part is, they have gluten free desserts! We totally stumbled on that and I was so excited. The chocolate chip cookie I got was amazingggg. I checked the menu, and they offer gluten free lunch items too!

I definitely recommend making the trip to North Georgia for a family getaway – and I cannot recommend Top of the Ridge Ellijay more!!! You will not regret it!
